We've got a largish (at least 2 feet) brown snake loose on the farm, right near the house, at the moment.
I think I'll be feeling uneasy till either a) I forget about it or b) we find it and kill it.
I don't mind when they're way down the other end of the farm, I can just not think about them, but right next to the house I don't like. At least , being big, it'll be easier to spot.
Who knows how many people may have perished from snakebite before antivenom was invented..maybe even this young fellow.

I think they are more scared of us, just make lots of noise (stamp your feet loudly), and it will scoot off.

Makes me think of "The Proposition" --which is like a travelogue for the glories of Australia (touch of sarcasm). Is the brown snake poisonous? How many kinds of poisonous snakes do you have Down Under? We basically have only three kinds of poisonous snakes around here: rattlesnakes, water moccasins, and coral snakes. We have big snakes called King Snakes and they actually eat other snakes, like rattlesnakes, so they're good to have around.

It has extremely potent venom, and although the quantity of venom injected is usually small, this snake causes more snakebite deaths in Australia than any other.'..you can see why I want it gone. The cats are stupid enough to go after it and get themselves bitten too.

Australia is the only country, or region, that has more venomous snakes than non-venomous species.'
It's snake season now. They're coming out of hibernation.This is the 2nd we've seen. The other was dead on the road which is right where it should be.

OH holy snakes! They sure are scary creatures! I hope you do find it before one of your cats do! That would scare the heck out of me! I think my dog would be dumb enough to go after one too..
and..what terrible news this tomb has! I can't imagine losing my child so young. Very interesting, to find such an old one too- so well in tact. 1896! Wow!

I think the gist of Bill Bryson's book on Australia, Life in a Sunburnt Country, is that Austrailia is full of things that can kill you.

that headstone is in remarkably good shape for it's age. those thin ones don't seem to hold up so well around here. fascinating shot. hope you get your snake.
